Future of Precision Medicine in Cancer Care in 2028
A speculative research project exploring the possibilities of tomorrow. Precision Support is a continuation of Precision Medicine treatment for patients in remission. It is delivered by AI Powered Personal(ised) Care Managers.

Overview
Defining the Problem
Precision Medicine (PM) aims to match treatments to individual patients by taking into account their genetic make-up, medical history, test results and other distinctive characteristics. Instead of applying a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, PM seeks to provide the right treatment for the right patient at the right time.
The aim of this project was to research and design for future patients (stakeholders) of Precision Medicine cancer treatments. Using futures design, speculative design tools and design research methods, for three weeks my group and I focused on researching, understanding societal and techonlogical changes and visualising future world cancer patients inhabit.
This allowed my team and I to understand and, separately, design better experiences for cancer patients of the future.
Due to improvements in medicine, cancer is likely to become a chronic illness, and less a terminal one. Currently cancer survivors are left to themselves once the treatment is complete.
For many cancer-survivors this moment is the beginning of the “New Normal”. Currently (2019) there are many services offering support to cancer patients, as well as those who want to prevent cancer. However, there is a lack of services supporting cancer survivors with cancer in remission. This is what I decided to focus on: designing a holistic care service that functions as a continuation of precision medicine approach to post-cancer care.
